First, I will install a roll cage, and I need to make a racing registration, for example rally division one, because the car modification rules are so strict here, I will only be able to use my car legally, if I register it as a race car. The only problem is, that I won't be able to go abroad with it. After the registration is done, I would like to change the entire suspension system, lower the car with 4-6 centimeters, and repaint the car to a dark, but glossy color, I have not decided yet on the exact color, but burgundy red, and chocolate brown are the most likely. I would also like tho replace the engine, transmission and exhaust system. I'm thinking on a 1.9 TDI engine, with 6 speed transmission. I will also upgrade the brakes from drum brakes to disc brakes. Fortunately, I have a mechanic friend, who can help me with the paperwork, so it is now all about getting enough money for the project.

Some more info on why I have to register my car as a racecar. Authorities here won't let you put a bigger engine in a street car than it has come out from the factory with. Also, after every upgrade, suspension, brakes, engine etc., you have to take your car to an examination which costs a lot, after that, they issue a paper that your car is legal, that also costs a lot, and it is also a lot of time. But to have a racing registration, you only need to have a roll cage, and they measure your brakes strength, and you are good to go, you can modify anything you want. You can use your car freely, if a police officer stops you, you just say: I'm testing my car before the race, or something like this. It is a common practice, and it is the cheapest way to legalize your modified car.

I hope I was understandable, as english is not my native language.

Hey Jámbor,

It all made sense, thanks for a great reply! I didn't realise the rules were so strict over there - however it is a shame you can't take it out the country, would of been good to have you over in England for our Annual Gathering next year

I love the TDI Engines, it's a great install, a couple of people on the forum have done them, Bert has, and this thread comes to mind too: http://vwgolfmk1.org.uk/forum/index.php?page=topicview&id=projects%2Fyour-mk1-golfs_2%2Fthe-red-rocket-my-mk1&kfs79=60

Cheers
