Hey all. I realize it kind of defeats the purpose to join a group where it is close to impossible to meet up, but we don't have a group solely devoted to MK1s here in the states.
I have always wanted a VW to tinker with and I feel I finally have my hands on a project. I am totally new to the scene as I have been more into Triumph motorcycles as of late rather than cars. Figured I would try my hand at cars and what better automobile to start with than a VW Golf!!
I am getting married this weekend so I will try and post photos when I return from break.
First order of business…… what kind of engine swap or upgrades are most popular for a MK1??

HEY STATESIDE!!! Welcome to the family mate. Firstly don't do it… you've got time… take the ball and chain off of your ankle before she gets you down the isle mate…. RUN FOR THE HILLS!!!! Only joking mate I hope you have a cracking day.
As for engine conversions the most popular are 16v from a mk2… then probably a 1.8 20v turbo from a modern golf/passat etc…. then G60 or G40…. brake upgrades are numerous I think. Triumphy??? Are you into euro stuff then with Triumph and VW? Glad you picked the mk1 (rabbit over your way)… it's a cracking car. Really nippy round corners and country roads but bet there aint many of those over your way are there?
