the joys of 1983

My name is Glyn, I have just purchased my first golf at the ripe old age of 21. It is a 1983 mk1 GTI 1.8 8v in white 3 door. I am just new to it all and would appreciate any helpful tips and points in the right direction. First off, where can i buy parts????

Hello glen, this is a good place for those hard to find bits and bobs  
For all my general stuff eg, filters oil etc.
I use GFS (german french and swedish) they are always helpfull.

When buying parts, be careful on ebay. If its a new part, chances are it will be cheaper somewhere else!

I go to college in Hitchin, so go through stevenage, and spent a lot of time there as thats were most of my friends live.

Also got a Fiesta mk2 XR2, but dont drive that.
You would know its me by the plate, and its got a "www.cruise-herts.net" sticker on the rear window!
Do you go on the A602 into stevenage? Lol you must do, its the only way iirc

yeah, im usually there about 8am, i drive a Peugeot 207 gt in salamanca orange during the week (its a company car) Ill look out for you, sometimes i get there a bit early. a colleague of mine had cruise herts stickers on his rs turbo when he had it.

BTW, theres a GSF in Hitchin, Euro car parts in Stevenage, Sam Centre in letchworth and hertford, and cheshunt car spares in…. cheshunt
They are the places I use.
Euro car parts can still get me pistons rings too!
Oh, and if you want some mods, try RPM Motorsports in Ware, they are really good, infact I bought some some lowering springs from there today  
I've got a trade card for halfords if you need any tools  :wink:

Yeah you'll see lots of cruise-herts cars in the stevenage area, we are based around there.
Was it a S1 8)  turbo or S2?
If it was an S2, it was probably red!!

yeah it was an s2 in red with white wheels. had a kind of flake glitter paint. cheers for the tips with the parts. i am picking the car up at the end of april and will start work on it as soon as i get it, already got a garage ready for it. it has rusted on the sunroof channels, so that will be the first thing to sort out! ill let you know how i get on with it.

if i knew how to post a pic i would show you what it looks like.

Yeah think I remember that S2, only ever saw pictures though
