How do…

Got this a few months back, 1.6, not mint but within my budget. Bought it without an mot (but I had sight of the fail sheet) & it only cost me an extra ?30 to get it all sorted out. Using it as a daily so really just be driving it around finding out where its at with reliability.

Been pretty good, few issues with cooling, thermo fan switch in the rad had been bypassed with a manual on off in the cab, metal water pipe seen better days, etc. Got a new switch, thermostat, metal pipe waiting to go on & will replace all the other coolant hoses whilst I'm at it.

Stuck new leads, rotor arm & dizzy cap on as soon as I got it.

Cambelt tensioner went into squealing pig mode during the week, so todays job is new belt & tensioner.

Goes well though, pulls cleanly thru to red line, seems to run a bit rough (idle) till up to temperature, not sure why that is, need to have a read on here..

Prev been sprayed aubergine & the shell isn't bad from the look of it.

I did show up at Billing in it for a quick hour on the Sunday.

Going to run it a bit lower & wider, these are RSL Cults 8x14 ET20 front & ET15 rear with stainless bodied FK Coilovers. Going to have the wheel centers painted to match the car. These mods won't be to everyones taste but the important thing is I'm out there driving it around, maintaining it & sharing a bit of Mk1 love amongst a sea of mostly faceless modern cars.

That's one tidy looking Series 2 there and as for the wheels and suspension, so much for a budget they're gorgeous mate.

Can't wait to see them on, it'll look awesome.

Tell me, what did you think about our Billing show?

T

I was very busy that weekend or would have stayed longer & had a chat with a few people, I'm new to Mk1's so picking up info as I go along.

Thought there was a good mix of cars that reflected what people do with Mk1's. From a nice 20VT engine conversion, lovely series 1 retro vibe, mint restored originals & most stuff in between.

Hoped there'd be a few more stalls selling bits (I did get there Sun mid aft so I know that's late) as picked up my Mk1 the wkend before & needed a few bits. Did see Crazy Quiff's setup but nobody was about so took a business card.

I'd go to 2009's.

Yes town center.

Get about though as use it most days to take the furry git aka the Dobermann out of town so he can have a good run round off lead.

Bought the car without back seats which suited me as he has more room, no excuse for it being rough in the back though, still want to sort it out & getting it looking nice inside.

Realistically using as a daily & having a 7 stone dog being clumsy in it means that certain things I can't do. No point spending ?xxxx on a full leather re trim, I'll have to balance form with function.

How goes Rob, have to say your car blew me away how it was sitting in your workshop, gorgeous.

Series of bends about 5 miles before you get to Mkt Harborough, parked up in the big layby.

It does look better from a distance but isn't that bad close up, insides tat, but a bit of money spent on the right things will soon sort it out.
