Thanks for warm welcome earlier in the week, just took some pics. Would love to hear if people think it's worth me finding somone to work on him for me and perk him up. Not a job for me cos a) I live in a London flat and have no garage or tools b) I haven't got time and c) I have the mechanical ability of a banana.

I do have some of the trim (very bendy), most of the hubcaps, and an incredibly comprehensive service history from day 1, including all garage receipts!

Where exactly in North London are you mate. I might have a mechanic who can help you out.

PM me if you want to keep your exact location on the QT.

Mechanic in North London

Thanks Tian, I'm in Stoke Newington, but more than happy to travel to someone good. Have used Autocraft in Woolwich once,  he was good but he specialises in later Golfs. Now using T&S Tyres and Car Care on Seven Sisters Rd in Tottenham for services and MOT. They've been good - but no MK 1 specialism.

Yesterday I sat down and made a log of the service history…apart from some gaiters, bearings, shocks and the usual bits n bobs, SPD is running on all original parts at 132,000 miles  - I've done 27,000 of those since 1995, and he currently does about 1,000 PA.

PS I did try and PM you, but maybe did something wrong…

Nice to meet you today :D

A structurally sound car with mostly bodywork and trim, only bit of welding I could see was probably 1/4 of the spare wheel well needs to be replaced.  Do hope you decide to get it fixed up, nice history!

Couple of pics….

Checkout the natural patina 8)

Can somone confirm the colour?  I'm thinking Inari, not sure,  the green is quite a bit darker in the door shuts etc that on the outside.

Hope you'll join us for another meet.
Cheers.

Was nice to meet everyone yesterday. Very encouraging to hear from folks that SPD's worth investing in. Now I know he should be Inari Silver, how can  I resist? Thanks Glen for finding the pic link and paint reference. Will be carrying on trying to find the right person to work on him, and will start a project thread too. Am intrigued as to why his pigeon poo blob paintwork might be desirable though….
