Welcome reaper, looking forward to seeing the pics

If you're planning on being around here for some time then it's worth buying membership. The parts and insurance discounts should soon recover what it costs you ;)

Enjoy you time here

Once I get the car I will be joining up as a member. Its a mid project car, had an engine rebuild and a respray. Just needs the interior sorting out. Which is what I wanted, something I can still use while slowly tinkering with.

Well that sounds straight forward enough - look forward to seeing it

I'll get some pics up Sunday if its not hammering down with rain. Has anyone had any experience with a long drive in a Golf. I'm looking at a 4 hour+ drive home in it. It should be ok shouldn't it if I stop a few times for a tea while the car has a break?

It should be no problem. I've not done a long trip in one for a long time though. The only issue I ever had in my MK1 is the 5th gear - it's quite high revs at high motorway speeds so can become a bit tedious.

If you're doing 70-ish should be ok and I don't know if the later cabby's were different gearing to my '83 GTI or not?

Ok, cheers, I'll just keep it a sensible speed, 65-70 mph and keep an eye on the temp gauge etc. Can't wait till the weekend now, gonna be a loooong week.

I've done a few 3 hour plus drives without any issues (well not many really) take your time, have the occassional stop and enjoy the experience. I'm sure you'll be fine, where are you driving from / to ?

I drove wolfsburg, Germany. To Bristol, UK and the only stop was the ferry so it should be fine :D

Cheers for that Scott ;)

I was looking for the latest meet link as soon as I saw he's from Boston - only then to realise that the last thread wont open so no one has seen it. I've re-posted reaper , hope you can make it ;)

Keep it at a sensible speed (I do 60mph in mine) on the motorway chuggs along no probs and temp never goes sky high. Like arf333 I did Wolfsburg and back in 5/6 days trekking 1800 miles. Just a small cam seal leak. These cars love an expedition!

Cheers Hugh.

You shouldn't have to be a member to view, just need to join the Lincs region I think.

Perhaps Ade ( lhasadreams  ) can remind me  :)
