Proud new mk1 golf cab owner

I picked up my new car last Saturday, it's a mk1 golf cab 1600 diesel.  The engine code is jr, iv done a bit of research and think it might be from a mk11 golf.  Can anyone confirm this.  I'm new to this car game so no long complicated words please    Any other useful info anyone can give me would be much appreciated.

Hi and welcome!
Look forward to the pics. I think you can safely say it's a Mk2 engine having a JR code. A quick internet search says so (used in Mk2 Golf 1983-1991). It's on this page if you look closely enough : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_discontinued_Volkswagen_Group_diesel_engines
Besides a Mk1 1.6 diesel would be CR or JK.   Just found this too (3rd page) : http://www.vwheritage.com/PDF/golf_info1.pdf
I hope the car serves you well! I still use my 1.6d to commute to work everyday all year round and it's 28 years old now

Thanks everyone.  Haven't got any pics yet but will put them on as soon as I have.
Right next question….. had a bit of a look yesterday and found a number on part of the gear box, 020 301 211.  I have googled this and it came up with mk3 gearbox cover.  Does this mean I have a mk3 gear box in it or am I looking in completely the wrong place?   :dontknow:

Not sure mate but if you're stuck stick the question in the running gear section and someone technical should be able to help you
