Welcome, the EW in the VIN nuber certainly points to it being a Campaign. Should also have P Slot Wheels (although these could obviously have been changed), green tint glass, fog lights in front grille, steel sliding sun roof and 1800 DX engine. What makes you think it isn't a campaign?

Not that I'm aware of, if its a GTI, an official import and has EW in the vin number - should be a campaign. The E in EW refers to the VW production year 01/08/83-31/07/84. The serial number after the EW idicates it was built in August 83.

If you bothered there are often sets of genuine P slots about in the for sale area. Make sure they are genuine Mk1 ones (not later mk2 ones) The difference is the space between the P's (think its 7mm on the mk1 ones and 10 mm on mk2 ones) - can get all a bit trainspotterish this mk1 lark

You're right mark! 7mm for MK1 and part number ends in an 'A.' The 10mm P-slots for MK2 end in 'AA' after the part number.
Sounds like a Campaign to me tho with the EW chassis number.
