Norwich newbie

hi everyone just purchased 1st mk1 tin top in red, bodywork great condition needs new clutch and starter motor though any info on this i.e what type clutch and starter etc?? hope to get this on the road for gti international

Hi Luke,

Welcome to the site mate.  For the clutch I got a LUK clutch from GSF (you get 10% off parts if you're a paid member on here).  Haven't really took my car out yet after the engine rebuild but fitted easy and from the little driving I've done it works well.  As for the starter I'd also give GSF a call.

Hi mate yeah i did off a friend, it was and actually still is stored at bottom of his barn. Not sure if its the 1.6 or 1.8 gti atm. I have the reg but finding it difficult to divulge any info about the car. Dunno if you or anyone can help?? The guy who i bought it from does have the log book 'somewhere' but he is a typical norfolk bloke so is taking ages for him to ig it out for me lol. Are you a member of any local clubs and go to any meets then?

I'll see if i can get any oics up over the weekend. I understand its a nun runner because of the starter motor fault, no tax, no mot but once repaired cannot see why it wouldnt pass through easily enough. I am in marsham which is on the cromer road just before aylsham. Its red with pirelli p-pots on atm   which iare quite rare/valuable?? I say should be looking at car again this weekend so will find info out then with regards to chassis nd engine code. i think its quite possibly a DX though which ould indicate a 1.8GTI. Reg is WBB 129Y, 1982/1983 model. Hope fully will know more but will give you a text/ring over weekend probs. Cheers
