Hi,
I have set my husband up an account here on your site, you will see why in a sec .
I have recently told my hubby to get rid of his Mk2 Gti as I needed the space in the garage (needless to say he was not happy) I needed to persuade him, so asked him would he like another "tinkering car" for his 30th Birthday. He replied "yes a Mk1", now you see why I have created this account lol, I need to start looking for a Mk1 as his Birthday is in 6months!
Where is the best place to start looking for one of these cars? He wants a reasonable one thats needs a little repair. I wouldnt say a "Project Car" as the definition of project to you guys will be completely different to my husbads ability. (he likes tinkering not full on 2nd job lol)

Please read the buyers guide though as 25 year old + cars can suffer some serious rust issues. I looked at 15 when I bought my first one… just to know what I was buying. Not saying you should go that far but do look around and if you yourself aren't mechanically minded take someone that is.. just to be safe

will you marry me too?? excellent love it you know we want a pic of his face when he see's his present, like spudfingers said its all about searching, look for ones that hav new or recent mot's so you can see any advisory's for next mot, some do hav rust problems but these are usually ones that people pik up for projects, if you look in our for sale section you'l find some stunning modified and standard motors, there are ones in there that people have restored so the works already done but they do come at a higher price, if your after a cabby (convertable) now is a good time to buy, alot of people that have bought them for the summer now realise they hav no where to store them now winters upon us and put them up for lower prices to sell them, if you wait 6 months to buy a cabby that means you'l be hitting start of summer when their in bigger demand and there for can expect to pay alot higher prices
good luck searching hope you find a good one, any probs or questions giveme a pm and i'l try point you in the right direction or get you in touch with the right person, everybodys helpfull and chatty on here so you can ask away with question with anyone their all happy to help

Welcome along, what a good idea you've had!!!
Before you make a purchase, as said above, have a look at the buyers guide or buy yourself this book,
http://www.veloce.co.uk/shop/products/productDetail.php?prod_id=V4188&prod_group=Cars%20Vans%20&%20Trucks
I've had a read of it and although it also covers Mk2's as well, Its well written by 2 renowned authors and could be the best £9.99 you spend this Christmas!!!
