Newbie! :)

Hey,

Just signed up (mainly because I saw an ad in the for sale section that I'm interested in :P).

Anyway, I'm from Somerset and up until recently I drove a MK4 Polo which is now for sale (http://polo.adriant.net - Sorry for the plug hehe) and my dad has recently agreed to me buying a MK1 Golf project to keep in the nice warm warehouses at work to restore :) I'd like to turn it into a close as possible track car but still keeping it road legal.

Anyone else from around my area?

Nice site, I'm sure I'll be a regular visitor :)

Toodles

Hello and welcome to the site. There's plenty of info here to help you with your project. Do you have a specification in mind ??

Hey

I've only got a rough idea in mind, I came across this website –> http://www.dubmodder.com/app/MK1/MK1.php

I had it black, lowered (as low as it would go) on ATS Classics with the large duck bill splitter and crosshair headlamps with chrome bumpers and wing mirrors.. That's basically all I've come up with so far :)

I'm not sure what year/model they are using on the dubmodder website, that's the shape I like :) I'm also not sure where to get the large duck bill splitter? or if any cars came with it standard?

I will be doing some sort of engine conversion, at the moment I'm heading towards the 1.8T I know it's been done many times but I think that's a good thing as I'm trying to build it to be quick, but also reliable with the option of using it as a daily drive :)

I'm after a MK1 that isn't going to need too much welding, I will strip it down myself and get my local bodyshop to respray it but I've never done welding or fillering etc so my skills are limited. Fortunately my uncle who is a VW nut will be helping out and he's been doing it all his life (currently doing a 1302S beetle).

Interior wise, well I'll still have a radio as I like my music and I'm thinking of putting in 2 top line Recaro seats in the front then just carpeting the rear with rear strut brace, maybe a half roll cage I'm not too sure I want to keep it inkeeping with it's 'old skool' style so a cage may be going too far.. but if it's going to be used as a track car then it may be essential.

As you can see I'm not too sure what I'm doing yet I've just got a few ideas floating around my head, I'm about 90% set on my exterior and interior styling but engine is going to take some more consideration.

I'm sure a couple of the questions I have asked is probably listed on this site so tonight I will be going through all the forums page by page to get as much info as possible :)

Sorry for the essay! lol
