Welcome to the club Pete, thanks for coughing-up for membership
Your Cabby looks tidy. Does it need any work or just driving and enjoying?
Planning to come to any shows in it this year - especially our AGM at the end of July

Hi and thanks Andy.
I got the car last Easter and enjoyed driving it. I will start doing a few bits to it. First job change gearbox it's got the annoying crunch from 1st to 2nd.
Once work dies down I hope to get to as many meets and shows as possible.
Thanks again Pete

Hi Kenneth.
I just assumed the gearbox. I have a spare box
If I change gear slowly and gentle it's ok also seems a little better once warm ???😡

Yeah give Mark a shout at Classic-VW
As well as checking out the linkage, do a fluid change.
One of the Redline oils can often help with a bit of 'crunch.'
I think this is the one - RED LINE Syn Manual Gear Lubricant MTL 75W-80 GL4
Is this the right oil rubjonny ?

Gearbox crunch from 1st to 2nd when cold is warn synchromesh, changing the gearbox oil to fully synthetic can help.
The gearbox oil is very often over looked, best to change it at least 60,000 miles, check you can remove the filer plug before draining the oil out.
2L is plenty for a oil change.
Stuff I've been using for a few years.

Thanks for that. I did change the gearbox oil but only used a Halfords brand. Thinking if it's worth changing it again to see if your oil is any better 🤔🤞

It's one of those - you wont know until you do!! No guarantees. I've used it on a crunchy box just once, but it did make a little difference.
