87 gti cabby ( GTI Engineering) 1800 plus pac

Yo….. Thanks for having me……..

Just bought my first GTI. It was parked on a street in London, filthy and rather sad, with some aftermarket wheels and a non standard sporty steering wheel.
I took the plunge as it only had 4 previous, and lots of history.  Drove it back to Surrey with no dramas, and really bonded with her.

Anyway, turns out the history goes right back to when the car was delivered brand new.
In the service book there was a note saying the engine had been modified, and that it should be serviced every 5000 miles…. which incredibly it has, right up to now with 143000 on the clock !
There is also a plate under the hood and a document from GTI Engineering, with some data on, and it looks like the wheels and steering wheel and front spoiler are all GTI Engineering parts.

She had only been in London for a year, and had spent the rest of her life in Worcestershire, garaged by the looks of things and loved, judging by the service history.
Just shows you that all that doesn't glitter can be gold !     (or something like that)

Thanks for letting me brag about my new ride, and if anyone knows what a GTI Engineering 1800 plus pac on an 87 MK1 cabby may consist of I'd love to hear…..

Hi and welcome to the club first of all.
Sounds like you've got a really interesting Mk1 there.

Well as you've probably guessed the forum is not that busy at the moment with Christmas and everything.

But I'm sure come next week members will be looking at posts like this one.

So in the meantime why not post a load of photos up for us to see and do tell us what your plans are for this Mk1.

In the meantime a very Merry Christmas to you and your family!  :christmas:

Hi Golfpunk, I reckon from your description its true! -you may have found a pot of gold:)If it has a Gti Engineering modified lump in it its truly scarce and should go really well? too. If it has the other items its even better.
A clue to see if it has this engine is to look for, apart from the plate (which should be riveted on- old rivets note) is what is the engine code on the V5 as Gti Engineering ones(if fitted from new-yes the cars often were modified from new) could have a completely different code to the usual Vw ones. As suggested can you post a pic of the plate/and doc?
Do hope it is a Gti Engineering car as Christmas will have arrived for you:thumbs:Enjoy!

I have to sell it unfortunately. The gearbox in my other VW has let go, and is going to cost £1500 to put right. With that and my sons school fees due in January I'm in trouble !

Wow I'm speechless, now that's real bad luck! 😕

I'm sure you know but this is the worst time to sell a car especially a Cabby no matter how special it is. 🤔

Really sorry to hear this.
