Newbie needing advice

Hi folks

Total newbie to this site but have had my mk1 for about 12 years!

Am from Lancaster ( Lancs) and car is a lhasa green 1800 gti :)

Will ramble about car and its history but for those looking to help b4 you get bored i need someone in the local area who can succesfully sort out my injection issues. i.e. somone who has the necesary pressure testing kit and knows mk1's like back of hand. Have got some wedge to sort this but dont want to replace 90% of the system so diagnostics first fix after!

For those who are still reading issues are. engine is stock but with audi throttle body and drilled airbox!

  1. Cold start fires first time revs then promtly dies. OK summer but not when temp drops like now. Will restart again then dies. Used to keep doing this for ages and could usually get it to go but now wont restart after second attempt.
  2. When running idle is lumpy. Will accelerate at low loads i.e. whilst needle on fuel econ gauge still visible but has massive flat spot from there to full throttle. Its prettty much OK at full throttle. (But not quite as quick as it used to be)

Its been set up with gas analyser with no improvment. Also just had cambelt done and timing is therefore spot on. Also replaced plug leads and sparks as were ropey looking.

Have spent ages reading loads of threads on what it could be wur's, cold start valves, etc and came to the conclusion it could be any of them and would rather save patience and give it to them that can!

And to those still reading a bit about her. Have known or known of a few of the last owners and no its not had an easy life! 211,000 miles young beleived to be on original engine but rebuilt circa 150k

Standardish with following mods!

Lowered (Not great anyone got a decent shock/spring set floating they want to sell!)
Mk3 front brakes. (Still very poor brakes)
Alloys 15's five spokes with toyo proxys
Scirroco Scala White interior. (Looks better then it sounds but a bit wobbly front seats and backs not screwed in)

Thats about it!

My best mate bought the car and it looked great. Had always wanted one!

He used it as a road rally car for a few months b4 the inevitable happenned! I was gutted to see it as he'd gone backwards through the hedge and bumper lights back panel and one rear wing was bent. He was about to break for parts it when i offerred him ?150 on the promise id get it back on the road.

Got a repair shop to jig the slightly off chassis leg and put a new back wing and panel on it. Got a second hand hatch and used it like this for a year or two. Looked rough as hatch was gold and couldnt afford to get any spraying done.

Eventually gearbox let go and took it off the road. Stripped it right down glass and trim off and hand prepped the body. Got it sprayed and evntually back together. Bought a written off scirroco scala in white and raided the gearbox, drive shaft interior and numerous other bits that have gradually been used over the years. In fact think its now about 50% my car and 50% scala. Sounds quick when you say it like that but was about 4 years and house moves kids etc in the mean time.

Is Cheshire too far?

PS "bumper" is one of the worst words, to make a typo on. There is an edit button.

Welcome to the site dumpy! Always amazes me how many long-term owners still come out of the woodwork!

Any pics of your lhasa green to show us?!

Cheers
Andy

Welcome to the site Chris :)

Should start your self off a project thread, sound like a good build.

There is a well established north west meet, check out the regional meet forum, there's a meet happening shortly.
