Newbie looking for a MK1 GTi!

Hi everyone, been floating around for a few weeks now. I'm hoping to pick a GTi, thats got a good tidy shell and has to be a good runner. I'm not afraid to get my hands a bit dirty but what sort of price should I be looking at? Also where are the main rust areas to look for, sills spare wheel well? I'm sure these have been asked a thousand times before so apologies!

hey alfb, great to see your interest! prices vary really, front and rear panel can get quite bad, like you said the spare wheel well is prone to corrosion typically, and if the arches have the black plastic spats or even a clipper kit or some kind of BBS body kit, underneath can be quite corroded, you just cant see it, maybe opening a can of worms with that. where are you based mate? get yourself to local meets and get chattin, chances are someone might be thinking of selling theirs or know of someone who is selling theirs. good luck mate, keep us posted on your progress and welcome to the site by the way! lol

Would it be out of the question to get a GTi with a pretty sound shell for £2000 ish?
