Newbie just acquired gti cabrio karmann

Post

Hi everyone, just thought i would pop a message on being new to the site.

This is my first MK1 Golf and hopefully it wont disappoint.  The car will be dropped off to me tomorrow (10/4/13) so the pics ive put on are what ive got off the seller.

Ive had a MK3 and a couple of MK4's before, but always fancied a MK1.

I come across this one on ebay and had the cash so thought i would take the plunge and go for it. I was going to buy one last summer that was an all white model but decided against it in the end (or should i say the wife did).

The most amazing thing about the car so far is the insurance quote ive just got £89 fully comp for the year.

I think the first thing im going to do with the car is replace the coilovers to normal shocks and springs, as the car sits way too low for my liking.

Anyway i hope to speak to some other members soon for tips on how to's and any other advice

Cheers

Dave

ps has this been a club members car on here before?

Hi Dave and welcome along to the forum. Congrats on becoming a MK1 owner. Stick some pics up of her so we can see if she's a previous members car :)

Ive been assured the shell is solid and the bodywork is mint. Also the engine was rebuilt at 89k and its now on 104k.

We've had a few of those on here mate where the seller has described it as mint and it's been anything but. Mint is a subjective term but from the pics she loks a good'un you just can't tell what lurks beneath till you really start looking :)

Best of luck picking her up.

I know what you mean by sellers using the word "mint", ive been to many cars that have been decribed as mint before and found some right sheds when ive got there.  I have took a gamble on this one as ive bought it blind on a auction, but i feel the guy was genuine enough.

I will get it up on the ramps at work this Saturday and have a good poke around. If anything needs doing or replacing i will just do it. They seem like a simple enough car to work on so it shouldnt be a problem if it needs anything doing.
