Newbie here.. advice required

Hi guys, im Chris, 18, from the West Midlands.

Got a Mk3 Polo at the moment but have stumbled across a very clean Mk1 that im going to enquire about.

As far as i know..

Registration.. XPC 2Y.

5 door, 'GL'. silver/sky blue colour with body coloured bumpers.

It looks very clean cosmetically, with only 1 tiny spot of bubble on the arch.

I think (hope) its mechanically sound.. but was just wondering, what engine etc will this be? and how much would you expect to pay for a similar example?

The owner is more than likely elderly, its been very well maintained but doesnt seem to be owned by any sort of enthusiast, so hopefully they wont ask for silly money..

Thanks, Chris.

Hi Chris and welcome

1st of all its always nice to come across a mk1 like that, for one its got a nice reg, which isnt really important, but I reckon it could be worth a few bob also??
5 door GL's have a 1.5 engine (1497cc I beileve?)

As for price, its very difficult to determie a price without a pic and knowing the history? but they can start from anything from ?100 to ?1500??

But I bought a 83 Driver that had been sat on a driveway for 8 years, off of an old lady a few years back and all she wanted was ?80 and for it to go to a good home (Which it did)!!

So good luck and try a get a few pics up, cos we are a pic hungry lot on here

just editied it for you..

welcome to the site tho chris, sounds good, I agree with Dubstar and a Gl will more than likely be a 1.5 and anything form 100 - 1500 is fair depending on condition, just make sure you have a good luck round the trouble areas and dont get home and then spot them then kick yourself for a paying a little too much for it..

5drs are the way forward tho

Thanks guys..

Been looking at the car but haven't managed to contact the owner yet, my dad has a couple photos on his phone but i cant get them at the moment.

I still want to enquire but i wouldnt be looknig to buy until the show season has finished, i fancy a winter project you see

Looked up the reg on the net and turns out it is a 1.5.

If its in good enough condition that it doesnt require much work (cosmetic at least) i'd be feeling an old school job: chrome small bumpers, chrome trim, some rather special wheels, roof rack etc  8)

Sounds good to me!

The season is almost over so if it turns out to be a bargin don't wait around as there might be other people looking for a project for next years shows!

Hi That would bemail mk1 golf, it is a 82 gl 1.5 4 speed. Was my first car repainted it in the ice blue ready for when I passed my test, unfortunately after a year someone decided it would be fun to dance on the bonnet & roof, break the mirrors off.
So it got parked up For the last 8 years, have finally found time to put her back on the road

My advice would be go knock on the door and ask and have a good look round it! When it comes to MK1's you won't be the only one who has their eye on it……would be a shame to miss out because the last person you asked what it was worth is the actual owner!

Wife, kids, car……not necessarily in that order.
