Recently bought a mk1 tintop.
Hi all,
I've recently bought a mk1 tintop with a factory metal sunroof, was this a factory option?
The previous owner has done an outstanding job of preparing the shell. Taken back to bare metal, very little metalwork required, replaced both front wings and bonnet.
I will be keeping it original so it'll be painted in metallic Lhasa green.
The interior seats, cards etc are in good shape, the engine is going to be overhauled.
I can't wait to get started.
I'll be posting updates during the build.
Hopefully see you all at the Annual gathering 2020.
Any tips, advice, comments, all gratefully received.

Regional Host Wales
Welcome to the club!
Great to see another member from Wales. I was only moaning on the weekend at the Retrorides gathering that there isn't enough mk1s in Wales!
I'm the regional host for Wales, we seem to have mk1s dotted all over wales, we're a little spread out from Pembroke to Newport and others further north!
We often join up with the South West/Bristol region to attend shows throughout the year including the AGM as we did this year. So would be great if you got the car on the road in time for next year,
Where in South Wales are you based?
Car is already looking really good! Make sure to get yourself a build thread on the other topics started. There is a wealth of knowledge in this club and everyone is more than happy to help where they can so make sure to make the most of it!
Lhasa green tiptop's are the best mk1s too - Not that i'm bias at all….

Thanks Sam,
I am looking to have it ready for the Annual gathering 2020.
The engine, box etc are off to be cleaned up and bought back to life. The bodywork needs a few final touches before being ready for paint.
Need to source a few bits and pieces so will be asking the members for help with that.
I'm from Crosshands but work all over.
I'll definitely start a build log, with updates and photos.
Hopefully meet a few local members in due course.

It was registered in April '83.
Bought by a soldier from the Royal Green Jackets. Its had 14 previous owners.
I first thought it may be a Campaign model due to the sunroof and tinted windows. Having checked the VIN it seems not.
The seller has spent 3 years prepping the bodywork. Its absolutely perfect. He smoothed the engine bay as he was going to fit an 1.8 20vt in it, which I also bought, (it's up for sale) along with a set of BBS RS rims. I'll be refitting the expansion bottle bracket and washer bottle bracket, also opening up all the holes he had covered up!!
It's got everything with it and will be back to original spec, apart from the alloys and a s/s exhaust system.
Will post a resto thread from time to time.

This must be Chris' car, I remember those photos on his build thread. Looks like a cracking start to a project. How did you manage to transport it on that jig? Just curious.

Hi Pistol,
It was indeed Chris's car, bought it from him back in June. If you look at my profile pic you will see it's well strapped down on the trailor.
Drove it slowly home from Hull to Swansea, took me over six hours, but worth it.
Not much has happened since the purchase. Engine is at the workshop being polished, shell is waiting for a slot to be prepped and painted.
Will post updates soon.

Hi mate, I'm looking at getting this resto completed in time for the Annual gathering 2020.
Not going to be ready before that I don't think.
I'm going for the original look so looking for oem parts. Missing a passenger front qtr in green tint and an oem radiator so let me know if you anyone with bits for sale.
Look forward to meeting up with you at some point.

Hi, the wheels fell through unfortunately. I will be looking for a set of RS alloys in due course. Good luck in finding a set, they are getting rare now.
