newbie from France

hello to you all,

had 3 mk1's in my time ranging from a diesel to a 1500. life's not always been pleasant (not enough cash for a mk1! or any other car come to think of it  8O )  but managed to find my dream mk1 here in France! life's taking a turn for the better! i want to keep her as original as possible, nothing fancy just way cool here in Vendee/France   cote de lumiere (coast of light, 2nd sunniest place in France after the riviera  :punk: )

she rock's………i know i know the wheels are terrible, but i don't care, she's all paid for AND she's mine

just want to keep her simple, nice and standard. i'm also a lifelong biker so if i want speed i go and do a trackday with my 750. my golf is a lifelong dream, going to keep her as standard as possible as i will be using her as my daily transport all year round so want to keep her reliable and simple to keep on the road………i will never sell her thats for sure ;)

Hello from further south in France where the top bits are still just white after last week's snowfall!

Have you had many people say "belle voiture" to you when you're at traffic lights yet? Happens all the time to me (could be coz I'm a girl though - not sure).

Just out of curiosity, how much did yours cost? Prices seem much higher on this side of the water…

Hi,

mine was cheap up here in Normandie, only 700 euros, but it did need some work to get it running. It had been in a garage for three years with a 'broken' driveshaft:

Robin

VW Golf 1500D 5-door 1978 - was daily (wet)
VW Golf 1800 cabriolet 1980 - daily (dry)
Bedford CF Trailblazer 1978 - camper
Bedford CF 350 Flatbed 1976 - fun/work
Mercedes W108 280s 1970 - dusty and forgotten
Mercedes S123 200T 1983 - to be renovated
Mercedes C124 1989 - Winter Beater
BMW E21 1976/82 - dusty but not forgotten
Twingo 2004 (not my fault, somebody gave it to me!)

Wow, Robin, that's some bargain! Mine was €4,500 for a 1990 GTI Quartet about four years ago. I couldn't believe the sorry state of some of the cabbies I looked at (one even had a baby's bottle with a sponge in it under the bonnet to absorb excess moisture on cold/wet mornings when the car was hard to start!).

hiya franco phoney, fell on a bargain….she was 1000 euros and she sailed through the control technique  she does need some work (especially the wheels!) but i will get there slowly but surely. she's a 1.8 carb model of 89 vintage and i love her nearly as much as my bikes
