Newbie from Cambridgeshire

Hi, I'm just starting a full restoration of my '82 1.8 GTI tintop that I've owned since '89. Its been in layed up for the past 15 years and im now hoping to get it back to its former glory for its 30th birthday on 19 Aug this year.

Here she is, not long after I got her in 1989.




In 1995 I had her 'restored' at a well known west country VW specialist, but their idea of restoration was different from mine !!! and the quality of work was some what lacking. She was resprayed in Hellios Blue with a new rear panel, wnidow seals, eyebrow spoiler, 3 piece Zender, Bee sting aerial, Twin head light grill and Bosi sports exhaust. The rear beam, ARBs,  brake gear, wishbones, suspension legs were powder coated.




As she stands now, partially stripped. Shes not been started for about 12 years, and has a bit of rust but not too bad. The rear sills have crumbled away along with the rear corners to the rear panel and the rear o/s arch and seat belt mount. The rest is surface rust………. i hope ? !!!

Looks like a good project to keep you busy though rust  or no rust  :mrgreen:  :dontknow:

Hi Icky I used to live in St. Neots a few years back, thats was where the Golf become 'Off the road' !

was it on the road when you was in neots, cant say i ever see it, u still come in to town, if so could meet up,

It wasnt on the road and it was 13 years ago !!! Still visit St Neots as I've family there. Once the Golf is up and running we could arrange a meet…

Alright mate, all the hard work will be worth it once you've got the car sorted, Im 15 mins south of cambridge near Royston, not far from you.  8)
