I've a 1.5 GX here. It seems to be a very good car, very reliable and a good engine with enough punch. There's quite a few of us with 1.5's and people on here are always happy to help out.
If you've not bought one yet, the carb is a complicated bugger to setup but once done shouldn't cause you any more hassles. People replace them but anyway…..

Hi and welcome!! I had a 1.5 many years ago - was quite a nippy car and as you say, insurance is better! Check out our member benefits as the insurance discounts could save you the ?15 straight off - and some!
The only problem I recall having with mine was the auto-choke - that was a night mare!
Get some pics up when you have bought one. When are you 25, will make a big difference on the insurance
Cheers

hello and welcome
the 1.5 is a great litle engine, I've had a couple of GTI's, got a 1.3 now and 2 1.5 Auto's the 1.5 is strong, pulsl well and very nippy.. Suprisingly how much nippier than the 1.3 even through the auto box
For me its 1.5 all the way now, especially as they are really 1457cc so fall into small tax bracket too!!
Good luck with the search

the carbs are good if treated well. and a bit of time has them singing like a nun.
the engine is a soild reliable lum that although not as powerful as a gti still goes like stick.
oh an welcome on good luck on the search
