If you've not bought one yet, the carb is a complicated bugger to setup but once done shouldn't cause you any more hassles. People replace them but anyway…..

The only problem I recall having with mine was the auto-choke - that was a night mare!
Get some pics up when you have bought one. When are you 25, will make a big difference on the insurance

the 1.5 is a great litle engine, I've had a couple of GTI's, got a 1.3 now and 2 1.5 Auto's the 1.5 is strong, pulsl well and very nippy.. Suprisingly how much nippier than the 1.3 even through the auto box
For me its 1.5 all the way now, especially as they are really 1457cc so fall into small tax bracket too!! :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

the carbs are good if treated well. and a bit of time has them singing like a nun.
the engine is a soild reliable lum that although not as powerful as a gti still goes like stick.

I've only had GTIs, so no help I'm afraid, but good luck with the search for your MK1 8)
