NewbIE Clipper

Hello everyone,

I am a newbie and have just bought my first mk1 after owning numerous MK4's (I have seen the light) and am now the owner of an original 91/J Black / Black Clipper Cabrio.
It is totally original just as I wanted and is in very good condition all round.
I am based in Hampshire and would be keen to meet with fellow dubbers, so would love to hear from you all. Also any helpful tips re: Insurance? am hoping to find a classic policy to save a few ????'s.

Cheers
Dan

Hi and welcome to the site Dan.  As above, get some pictures up!
Have a look in the insurance section and you'll see which companies have offered the best insurance for different people - age and points is always an issue though (I presume 1975 is when you were born so the former shouldn't be an issue).  If you're after classic insurance there is normally a limited mileage clause - something to bear in mind if you're using the car daily.

Hi Dan - I'm in Basingstink - What side of Hampshire are you?

I've an 1989 Clipper in black too, just ripped my delicate hood badly so not driving the Clipper at the moment - back driving the MK4!

There's a regular VW meet at NoRice (Southampton bound) at Fleet services every month. Also there's a Golfy MK1 meet at the Jekyl (sp?) and Hyde meeting once a month too.

Welcome to MK1 ownership and the forum!

Re: NewbIE Clipper

Hi,

I actually complete the sale tomorrow, haven't seen the car yet but is seems a good buy, has had a fairly easy life. Have not owned a cabbie before, are there any horrible faults I need to know about?
Mine has history from 91 untill 98 then none untill 2005 when it had a cambelt at 77K.
Rust on bootlid the size of a 5 p but otherwise spotless - so I'm told, all electrics work etc.

Would be good to hook up.
Dan

P.S - I am in Fleet
