hood?? hmm good news then, it is a mk1 there was never a factory mk2 cab, unless its a bogge up from one of those 80 convertable convertions!

Yep…. if it's a 1988 and a cabriolet it's a mk1. There never was a mk2 cabriolet. It switched straight to the mk3 in 1993.

if it's a cabriolet then it's definitely a mk1, as said before, there wasn't a mk2 cabriolet. the mk1 ran from 1981 right up till 1994 that's old 'W' reg right up till 'L' reg. 1988 means yours is a 'E' or 'F' reg so it definitely is a mk1 mike.

Mk1 cabs We're about before then there was a T plate (early) for sale at a back street garage by us 6 or 7 years ago, in light blue metalic and we have restored a beautiful gold GLi 5 years back on a V plate which i only saw 3 months ago in cradley heath near Dudley, very nearby.
the early cabs don't have the rear seat lock on them and the hood frame is different and locks differently.

I'll stand corrected!!      I thought they started in this country in 1981, so I suppose those earlier examples may have been imports?? Doesn't matter either way though!
