Newbie- 1983 mk1 gti

Hi, im rich 29 from telford, always loved thing all vw and wanted a mk1 golf or caddy for a long time now. I decided the golf was the better one so I got a 1983 mk1 golf gti in black
I'm real pleased with it as a start for a big project.
I'm looking at doing a full restoration to it but for now I just want to get the basics right
I'm going to start a project thread in good time
I would like to go to some shows near me if anyone can point me in the right direction
Also any parts I might want

Welcome to the club. Show wise there's Dubfreeze in Stafford,(chiefly an air cooled event but water cooled have more and more presence). Then of course there is Ultimate Dubs in Telford itself.
