Hi all, I'm a newbie member to the forum but have owned my Golf GTI for around 20 years. Shamefully 14 of those years it's been in a slumber in my lock-up but a month ago I dragged it out cleaned it up and replaced a bunch of parts and 2 days ago the old girl passed the MOT and now it's back on the road, well kinda… Due to the amount of time sitting around certain parts don't like working again, ie gear linkage bushes fell apart, an oil leak has developed out of one of the sensors and today's development is a very harsh hesitation when accelerating!!! I knew there'd be a few issues and the idea is to iron out any problems before I go and overhaul the underside components to get it looking factory fresh again.
Anyway enough of me blabbering on, here's some pics…

Thanks for the welcome.
The car is a beaut, it's only covered 49k from new and is virtually rust free bar a few small scabs beneath the wheel arch spats. I bought it with 27k from an old couple that owned it from new.
I'm from planet Thanet, or 'Fanit' as it's said by the locals.

Pretty little car, I'm not far from Thanet Earth myself actually but my tetanus is out of date so I try to avoid it if possible.
Will you be going to oh so retro in Margate this year?
Our mileages aren't that far apart either, I'm on 41k

I'm sure I've seen your cabby before, do you go down to the 'classics and chips' monthly meet at Minnis Bay?

I hope I do, it does look rather lovely in your sig. I do like the yellow headlights, I had the same on my Caddy van…

Cheers Ben (I'm Ben as well)
They were going to be a temporary measure until I found some tinted crosshairs but I think they'll be staying, no issues with mot either so happy days.
That caddy is a beauty!
I'd have one if it could carry my track bike

Yeah defo keep them Ben, I never had a problem at mot's and never got a pull cos of em.
The Caddy is a great van, it's quite cavernous inside but yeah you'd struggle to get a motorbike in there!
