New user: future MK1 AutoX(?)

Hello everyone, I've admired mk1s for a while and see what might be my opportunity to get one:

Whats the community opinion? Is it worth it or should I sit on my money for a while? I don't have specifics since I haven't contacted the owner yet, but if it looks like a waste of time I will accept that.
I don't want anything nice, just something I can turn into an autocross car for cheap and have some fun with.
