New to the old skool.

maybe some dont like it been called old skool but it sums it up for me..

so hello :)

ive been into newer vw's all my life with the oldest car ive owned been a 99 T mk4 gti. ive never got involved too much with the engine especially fault finding and fixing.. as its usually been part replacement etc.

anyways ive always been a fan of mk1 golfs. and after selling my merc i ordered a mk6 golf, put money into the business and with the rest i bought this…

i tried to find one with as little body work as possible as i cant paint and would never really want to as i feel i dont exceed in skills on that area.

its a 1.1c 1983 with origional 47k miles… but it does have its issues with the engine. probably cos im not used to the manual choke and it needs some tlc.

ive got a list of things that need addressing asap. but thought i would mither you guys and girls later with them…

so far from looking at the forum ive found some great help (be it from people having problems with their own) but i would like to get this running right so its dependable.. (if that will ever be the case?)

look forward to been apart of this forum and seeing any of you in the future at meets? if i ever get it out my garage again haha.

Richard.

Very nice Richard, I think I saw this for sale over on Edition 38? If it's the same one it looks very clean, and like you've made a few changes already.

Are you sticking with the 1.1? It'd be really refreshing to see a nicely detailed 1.1 under the hood.

Good luck with it.  8)

Welcome to the site, that's a very tidy car, good luck with it

You do realise you've just caught the Mk1 disease and there's no known cure

My New Year's resolutions are: 1. Stop making lists. B. Be more consistent. 7. Learn to count.

Gav, thanks. there are few things that need addressing but hey its a mk1.. if they were all perfect it would spoil the fun. i cant say ill keep the engine tbh… its not suitable for modern driving in my eyes esp with everyone thinking they are racing drivers on public roads. so if anyone is interested in it ill let them know when its available… it does work at it is now. just needs a good service.

desperado. yeah im fully aware of the addiction… i had the love about 6 years ago but never had my fix untill now :P, and when the main work starts in a month ill be adding therepy bills to the build cost haha.

when ive had a good start on the build ill start a build thread. thank you for taking the time to say hello :)

I guess that's the thing with low mileage cars, they are generally mint and could be kept original - but also make an excellent base for a project!

Looking forward to the build thread.  8)
