New to the mk1 but not to vw
Hi all Im Gavin and am looking to buy the misses a mk1 cabby of some sort, well its for me too lol.
Currently have a vr6 corrado and an audi a4 s line which will be forsale if the misses gets on with the cabby. She is struggling with the steering, which brings me nicely on to my first question Do all cabbys have no power steering, or if they do whichs models have it. Please tell me they do or my mk1 dream could be over before it begins, thanks in advance.

Give'em time. It's working hours.
A few Mk 1 Cabriolets had power steering, but it's very uncommon; possible to retrofit some solutions (the electric assistance solution using a modified Corsa rack seems quite sensible).

Hi Gavin, and welcome to the forum… sometimes the forum is quiet hence you havnt got a quick response.. you will find its a good place to find the info your after with lots of friendly members..
as for your power steering question..
Power steering was an option where vw sent the car off to have the steering off to a 3rd party to have it added.. there is no aftermarket kit supplied in Right hand drive mk1s from vw..
if you search the forum people have made their own from a nissan bluebird steering rack among others….. just do search for power steering and have a browse… hope this helps
cheers

Just phone the fella and no answer, we have been looking at the rivages and we kind of dont want another navy car as our last 3 were and is lol. But that is perfect in every way so thanks for the link, lets hope that is power steering.

I know he wont budge on price… as a mate of mine has been in touch with him… It does seam a good price thou with v low miles too.. I would be seriously interested if I had the money to hand and it was more local ( I'm over 5 hours away from it) I guess you will be about 2?

Yes not too far at all and 3k is also the money I want to spend, so providing the car is as good as he says I would happily give him the cash.

That is true, he is saaying how original the car is lol. So did your mate look at it?
I have also just looked up some info about fitting power steering, which would cost an arm and a leg so I think it would have to already have it.
