1.8 1991 Mk1/Mk2 clipper cab?

Hi all, after years of waiting, and begging,  i've inherted the family mk1/mk2 clipper cab.

I've been into my VW's for a long time and have a split screen bus, but new to the water cooled!

Few questions I have, i've heard people call the clipper a Mk1 but surely it's a Mk2 based on 1991 date?
Should I be joining the Mk2 owners club?

The car is currently stock, but i'm hoping to upgrade suspension/brakes and maybe engine. Although the 1.8 runs well.
The electrics are hit and miss though, radio stays on sometimes and things like that.

I'm based in Kent (not far from ashford)  and work in East sussex, any local meets or people that are able to give advice?

I'll get some pictures when I can as everyone loves a pic!

Jack

 Welcome
The cabby is based on the mk1 so mk1 so u are in the right place.
The front may look like mk2 but it is actually different and the rear lights are the same as a mk1

Hi and welcome,

As said there is no Mk2 Cabby.
VW didn't want to spend the money developing a MK2.
So in 1988 they decided to face lift the MK1 cabriolet, by adding a body kit. So as it's a misnomer people call it a "Clipper Kit".  All late cabbies whether GTI or not had the Kit fitted. Others call it the big bumper model.
"Clipper" refers to the base model of the cabriolet range.
So therefore there isn't a "Clipper GTI".
Al the Cabbies were made for VW by Karmann in Osnabrück, Germany, because Wolfsberg plant was to busy to interfere with production of the Golf.
Just some nerdy stuff

And yep get some pics up please.

Thanks for the info, I love all that nerdy stuff.
It's stuff I know for the splitscreen, but don't have much of clue when it comes to the golf.
(Different years, models, subtle changes etc)

I'll get a few pics up this week as going to pick it up, got to get it through the MOT next week. Then I'm debating what to do, think I'll take it for a few drives and get a feel for what needs doing.
