new owner of 82 gl.25,000 genuine miles.anyone help??
hello there i am new to all this as i have been into aircooled vws most of my life but i have now crossed over to the rather more sensible and hopefully more reliable water cooled side.
i have just purchased my first ever mk1 golf and i was wondering if anyone could help me with some info on whether i have got a good model for my first or not and if anyone could suggest a value for me please for insurance purposes(got it from a friend for next to nothing)
the car mentioned is a very good condition y reg 1982,1500cc,golf gl in regatta blue.it has full service history and original bill of receipt and various other paperwork.
the best bit is it has only done 24,900 original miles!!
as i said i have no real knowledge of mk 1 golfs so would appreciate any help at all.
thanks

thanks everyone,i am very pleased with it
should be on the road in june as i havent got it taxed yet
as for pics i shall try and get some on here this week some point(not great with computers so may take me sum time)
i am from just outside peterborough
the car could do with a new front bumper as has a very small crack on corner and has one or two very minor bits of surface rust on a couple of wings and a small faded patch on the bonnet but i am sending it in in the next few weeks to have them all sorted by a proper bodyshop to get it looking the best it deserves.had its mot this week and it past with no probs.
does anyone know whether the gl was a popular model?
thanks again

I'm just up the road from you mate  - just outside Stamford
GL was pretty popular in its day, still see a few about now. I had one when I was 19 and couldn't afford a GTI/insurance, a few (ah-hem) years ago!

thanks alot for your nice comments.glad you like it.
being new to the golf(water cooled) side of things i dont really know what shows would be worth going to or where most are.i have seen a post about a meet up at billing aquadrome,i will probably go to that one as its not far from me.i shall put up some more pics once its been tidied up properly,i havent had time yet and it really is filthy inside and out as it has been stood for the last year on someones drive.
can anyone recommend where to get a good roof rack from?
