New mk1 owner

Hi all, been a member on here for a short time, as I fancied a mk1 as a project. Scanned here, ebay etc. for a few months and have finally put a deposit on a black '82 GTi. Need to get it home now and get on with it

As ever I will require a fair bit of help with parts and info., and hope I wont be too much trouble with daft questions.

Now for a slight confession,I've never owned, driven or even sat in a MK1 GTi before :redfaced: , but this will make finally getting this car on the road all the more enjoyable, as I know from reading that they are great fun to drive. This will be a while away yet plenty of work to do in the mean time.

Another confession, my first automotive love are of Mk2 escorts and have owned a few over the years, but they say a change is as good as a rest, we will see.

Theres loads of good advice here, people have helped me out a lot with my silly questions. Wouldnt bother asking any about Escorts though

Hi mate and welcome to the site. Most people here appreciate an old retro car so an old ford won't be too frowned upon lol… Personally I like looking at anything retro.  An old Mexico, Capri or cortina I quite like the look of. I'd only buy one car though as it's my passion…the mk1 golf.  Each to their own and I hope you enjoy your purchase and the site. Welcome aboard.

had to join up so i could look at the pics of the old stager from Chester Merpo's been telling me about,it looks a good project to me but that Merpo is tight with the pics  :roll:

there was me thinking i was the Gti lover and Merps got one
