New Mk1 Owner

Hi Im new to the site, I just bought my first Mk1 Golf yesterday and not stopped smiling since.

I have a Polo GTi that is currently under repair after some woman tried a manouver from the offside lane to the nearside lane to park on a roundabout, right accross the front of me!

Before:

After:

I wasnt covered for a hire car unless the woman accepts liability and she said its my fault cos she indicated????

I was planning to get a Mk1 Golf next month for a project and decided to bring that idea forward and bought this.

Its a Driver with a mk2 1.8 driver carb engine fitted with high lift cam, 4 branch manifold and straight through exhaust. Im having some Solex twin 40's fitted soon also.

I'll probably be asking loads of questions cos its my first real project… advance warning

Cheers, JT

I dont live so far from you Pete, I live in Atherton

The interior is stripped out with Sierra Cosworth Recaros and a rear strut brace. and the car goes like stink, I dont know whether it is faster than the Polo GTi but it certainly feels like it is.

The guy who sold it wanted to keep his wheels so thats why its on steelies at the moment, I have some sebring alloys to tie it over and some polished RH Toplines Im re-polishing at the moment but I fancy dropping it on some 13" in the future.

Ive already posted my first question under the big block carb model section

Cheers for the welcome

Cheers, JT

good luck getting the insurance sorted, really ***** me off when people push in at the last minute  at roundabouts - wouldn't have hurt her to go all the way round if she realised she was in the wrong lane, sounds like she was speeding too :banghead:
Back to the mk1, looks like you got a very good little project there. because its so lite with very little interior and a fairly big engine the power to weight should be very good 8)
