new mk1 owner

hey my names david from newcastle upon tyne, just bought my first mk1 golf. its a 1980, 1.3 with 70,000 miles. the shell is in good condition from what i can see so far apart from a previous owner has smoothed the swage line in hopfully i can get it back. The interior has been fully stripped and all that remains are the dash, two bucket seats and a cage but im goin to concentrate on the bodywork first of all. The engine seems to run fine apart from on my way home the alternator belt decided to disappear but i feel for £1.300 i got a good deal. hopefully i can make it into a respectable car as i know the swallow tails are getting quite rare and i hope to be at some shows once i get it to a decent standard.

Nice looking car mate,are you going to put a full interier back in it ? by the way only the very early mk1's have the swallow tail .

lol sorry just ment the smaller rear lights. the interior would be the last thing to do for me really im hoping to get rid of all the rust and get a full respray over the winter, i dont know the what the colour is but am wanting it in the darker yellow as this has been resprayed in a Ferrari yellow apparently.

The Mk1 Golf yellow would be nice being an original colour,keep us up to date on your progress and I'm sure if you need any info and or guidence there are plenty of people on this site to help you out.welcome aboard mate
