New Mk1 cab GLi Owner

Hi all,

I've been the proud owner of a beautiful red Mk1 Golf Gli Cab for about 3 years (although for most of the time it has been stored in a barn as I've been out of the country).  It's been in the family for 24 years and is basically mint.  My grandad only used to take it out once a month hence it's only done 20,000 miles (!).
Really glad I read your Welcome section about preserving these cars and not over modding them. These things can start off small and get out of control, I started with a red tax disc holder (pretty innocent), then went and replaced the stereo (kept the original blaupunct tho), then decided to get an alarm and piled in for after market central locking (could be going too far?).  I now have thoughts of fat wide wheels and chrome exhausts flying around my head, kinda difficult to know where to stop!
I look forward to chatting with you guys and swapping some tips and advice.

Sounds like a little gem to me!

It is nice to keep them origenal, but very hard to resist a little tinkering! Mine is a 1983 cabriolet and it's mostly origenal apart from the interior which has aquired a chrome gear knob, chrome window winders, as well as an alpine stereo.  Alarms are sensible ideas, this is going to be my next purchase!!

Thanks for the warm welcome mate.  Yeah, the urge to tinker becomes overwhelming after a while  Got an Alpine fitted today, makes sooo much difference after the original unit that just had MW and LW radio!

I'll get her scrubbed up and post some pics this week.

Welcome Ked! Sounds a cracking cab, can't wait to see pics! Our member 'walt' will have some competition now - he has a Rivage Cab with only about 12000 miles on it! 8O

Takes a lot of stick for getting it dirty, perhaps you can take some off him!!
