New in town!
So after 13 years pining after my first Mk1 Golf…that i had to sell as i couldn't do it justice as a poor 18 year old…i've finally gotten around to buying my 2nd Mk1 Golf. I'm selling my Alfa GT as a result, so i mean business!
I think i've struck gold though, in terms of a good starting point. Maybe you guys could let me know what you think? £1,375 got me a Claret 1983 model, 1.1 C (so work to be done there). However what really caught my eye was the 32k genuine miles on the clock and the fact that its only had 1 owner from new, a little old lady. Documentation proves it! The little old lady still has the original sale receipt from 1983, and a ton (literally) of paperwork going back 28 years. Amazing! A real rare find i thought.
It's completely standard…completely. There isn't a spot of rust or corrosion anywhere which i find unbelievable. The engine bay, the sills, the arches, the hatchback, the sparewheel pit…all in top top condition. The only disappointment is the roof skin, which has 6 or more pretty hefty dents in…and that needs addressing first, because it brings the whole car down. Any tips anyone can give me there would be great. I'm not sure if it's beyond salvage…or if a new skin is needed, or what the cost of either would be. Help!
No pics as yet, as i pick up at the weekend, but here's a link to the add…so you can see what i've got for my pennies…
Car & Classic
I guess my ultimate goal is a look similar to this, which i think is stunning!
Looking forward to the months and years of fun (and headaches) to come….
Cheers

Can't wait to pick it up next weekend. I have sleepless nights about the roof though!
