New guy.. Mk1 Hunt!

Hi Everyone,

Just want to introduce myself, ive finally joined the site after regularly looking at it for ages, what a great site!

Its a brilliant resource for everything mk1 and ive spent hours looking through the threads, its really interesting and quite addictive!

I really fancy a mk1 GTI tintop as a project car and have done for ages, however havnt managed to find any within range that i can pick it up. Maybe someone on here may be able to point me in the right direction wheres good to look, im on ebay a few times every day autotrader etc and all the local classifieds however its been fruitless yet. I havent got loads of money for it but ive got enough to do what i want, i think!
I'll be putting a post on cars wanted soon.

I know it would be ideal if someone i knew found one in their garage that had been there for years and wanted to sell it to me cheap however that is somewhat unlikely!

I've been pestering everyone i know to keep their ears open anyway.. just in case!

I'm based in newcastle and teesside dont want one with horrendous welding but I am keen to learn and do a bit and intend to restore the car properly.

Cheers for reading this sorry about the essay!

Stephen  :)

Hey Stephen,

There's always a few knocking about in our classifieds.

Try www.carandclassic.com too or just other general retro forums for hidden gems..!

Good luck with your search, keep us updated on how it goes.

It's worth waiting. I got lucky recently and bought a mega mileaged GTi hatch to have as my next project and that was just through a wanted ad on this site. I've got the Golf on ice until I've finished my current project car. If I were you just put the advert up on this site and maybe a couple of others in 'cars wanted' and sit back, you could even put aside a tenner every week you don't hear anything back, then the longer you wait the bigger your project fund and it gives you scope to collect further away.

Thanks for the advice..

Yeh think i need to be patient and hang fire, ive got a few months before i would be able to do any real work anyway as i live away from home at uni but finish in June.. hopefully something will come along within range, just desperate to get something started! :banghead:

Seems to be a complete lack of GTIs for sale anywhere near the North East like.

Hopefully something will come up  :)

Cheers

I'm doing building surveying, in my 4th and final year, got a ton of work that i should be doing now really lol!

Bit of a rubbish time to be graduating and looking for a proper job though given the current economic climate in relation to construction etc! fingers crossed i'll find something!
