New convertible owner (not me though!)
Just thought I'd post up a hello.
My girlfriend just picked up an '89 Golf convertible, slightly molested (the car, not her) but nothing too outrageous.
As the live-in spanner monkey, I thought I'd sign up and get some help and info off you lot. I'm into BMW E30s myself, and help run a forum dedicated to them, so i know how useful and interesting these places are. My interest in old German metal means I'm also quite well versed on mechanics/repairs, but I'm sure I'll still need plenty of help learning about the Golfs and their parts…
Anyway, here's a pic of her new purchase:
I'm sure you'll be seeing a whole load of posts from me in the near future trying to learn stuff about it before I get too deep with the spanners.

great looking find, bodywork looks tidy in that pic.
Golf is a big mechano kit so you shouldnt find too bad and load of advice available through the forums.
If the car is staying outside, look at replacing the side tension wires on the roof and the foam gaskets while your at it.
