I know what you mean, when I bought my blue one the guy I bought it off actually painted the scalas which was on it in flat black hammerite  8O  when I went to see it he was actually commenting on the wheels as if it was a selling point  :banghead:    eeeerrrrr yes mate you've done a really good job, what can you do  :dontknow:

Wheels are a little tricky really, some people change them constantly which can't be a cheap sport, I'm of the skool of getting what you want n keeping them for a few years

hi all in response to the question mod or resto after reading the forums it turns out that i didn't buy the clipper version i thought i was as they are post 87 mine is an 86 gti 1.8 so with this in mind and having a tight budget to work to i will keep it simple with light mods and just work on keeping it on the road for many more years to come

Cabby

Hi and welcome,

Looks a good base. In my opinion, and with a tight budget, i'd be getting the bumper back on and sorting the indicators out to start with then just the basic checks and start using it. You'll then find out the usual niggles that all new cars have and you can then sort these out. As for wheels, like the other posts have said, these are all down to personal choice. For the time being you could get tourself some wet n dry and some rattle cans (silver) and remo ve each wheel for a light sanding and a home make over. They'll look so much better.

Anyway good luck from a fellow gti cabby owner.

Hi guys just got these off a passat i bought as this is still not running well just wanted to know what size tires to fit for the golf they are 14" ET34 with 185 65 14 at the moment and also dose anyone know what these are ?

You can fit pretty much what ever tyre you want on those wheels, you need to think about the diffrence in rolling circumference though (guessing you'll be more interested in the lower profile), this will explain what I mean (not the best site ((no offence intended)) but gives you an idea)

http://www.ukzero.co.uk/calculator1.htm

Essentially impacts your odo, speedo, engine revs etc

Not sure on what type of wheels they are exactly, but they look alot like rs's to me - could be wrong, has happened in the past  :D

hi since_1983 the black wheels are 15" multi fit not sure on make or ET but the front ones have spacers on to clear the calipers .

just to answer your question, mk1's with 14" generally ran 185/60/14's
