My first mk1 - Lemon Yellow

Post

Hi everyone,

Ive been browsing the forum for a little while whilst looking for my first mk1, well today I finally bought one. I should have a project thread underway soon but until then here are some pictures of when I got it home. Its a Golf N originally a 1093cc but has a 1.6 engine fitted which looks to have been converted to carbs apparently out of a Polo. It Only has a 4 speed box and the front and rear seats are again apparently out of a Polo.  I hope you all like it. Let me know what you think.

Welcome to the forum, tidy looking MK1. Looks like you don't need to do anything to it other than drive it?

Thank you. My initial plans are:

Re-fit the drivers side sun visour
Fix / replace the drivers side door handle as it doesn't work
Fit a standard steering wheel and front and rear seats
Fix the fuel gauge
Higher the coilovers slightly as I live out in the country and I'm just bouncing along at the moment

Then after the mot and tax run out in two months time the car will come off the road and then the real fun begins

Easy list so far - so what's the 'real fun' planned then??

Hi there and welcome along to the forum. Nice purchase you have made there. The smoked rear lights aren't for me but then again I am old

Enjoy her.

When its taken off the road the car will be stripped, any body work / rust will be a repaired along with a re-spray and possible engine conversion and new wheels. I like the idea of restoring it to standard with a few little extras. I do like the s1 bumpers.

Nice looking project there. I am also a fan of returning the cars to standard. I would get rid of the GTi badge as well, and then get out there and enjoy you car.

Thanks Andy. Yeah I agree, the GTi badge will be removed. The plan was to drive the car for a couple of months the project has started a little sooner than I first thought

Thanks. I have a couple of pictures of the interior which I will upload. The car looks a bit different now so I will get my project thread started and update with full details and pictures on there.

Thanks very much. I don't like the rear lights either. These will be for sale, along with the wheels, suspension, seats, steering wheel, gti badge, arch trims front splitter and rear interior panel covers, once I reach the required number posts to be able to post in the for sale section.

Wil you be able to make the AGM at the end of July then??

It would be good to see a 'before' car and then an 'after' later. ;)
