Mk1 golf gti power steering

Hi I have 2 Mk1 golf gti convertibles, one is an 84 A Reg and the other is 92 lhd on a J reg, is there any chance I can take the power steering from the J reg and put it in the earlier model?

Think the power steering racks are different from LHD as opposed to RHD.
LHD cabs late ones are rare over here so personally I'd think before breaking especially if it's a rare model.

Hi,thanks for the reply,mine is a "classic Line" the european version of the rivage.Its got power steering but only a manual roof/windows so im after a roof(not bothered about outer skin)electric windows or lhs window winder,dash parts inc dash and lots of other parts even a lhd power steering rack if you want to sell it.
It needs a little work but havent stripped it down yet but back in the uk april so wil get to work.

Mine sounds the same as yours mate, will let you know if I eventually break

Classic line, Etienne Eiger, Genesis, sportline.
There's a few editions we didn't get here in the UK.
We had the Rivages which are identical to the classic line. Same as sportlines.
The Genesis model was made to assist with the promotion of the band Genesis (Phil Collins fame) who were doing a world tour.
The people who bought the cabs got their keys and tickets at the concerts on Germany.
Rolling Stones had the similar thing also.
