mk1 for the track, NEED HELP ASAP

hi, i have a 1600cc carb'ed mk1 golf gl that is going to be used as a track day car. when i bought the car it had a wiring loom with it but i was not wired up. im looking to wire it up on 3 wires (live to coil, started and electric fuel pump) will this work? i remember helping a friend set up a polo a few years back and i wouldnt work with out a sensor. just wanted to check if mk1 golfs are the same. any help would be good as im hopeing to have the car running for monday morning. thanks.
