Me and my '82 GTI from Colombia

Hello, everyone. My name is Daniel, I'm from Bogotá, Colombia, and I recently bought a Golf GTI, the car I promised myself some years ago would be my first and hopefully a keeper. As another Colombian user mentioned on his post, finding a good MK1 GTI here in Colombia is hard, given that some of them haven't recieved a respectable treatment throughout their lives and others just have ended up in the wrong hands (check this one out as an example).

Anyway, my search finally came to an end last october when I found on some local ads the car which is now mine. Didn't hesitate and the next day got an appointment to go and see it. It's only owners were a couple of brothers who've used the car all these years and that's been it. So even though it has almost 246,000 km on it, it's always been taken good care of as you can from the pics below. The engine is in very good condition, the interior as well and I was lucky enough that the battery and tires were changed recently. Besides, I just loved the fact that it had those ATS Style 8 wheels on!

Things went as planned and everything just turned out for the best. I picked it up on november 2 and the next day I changed one of the bearings and gave it a very nice bath that brought the paint back to life. At some point it was repainted, it's actually a bit more orange, but it looks ok. Can't ignore the fact that there's work ahead to try and take it back to it's original state, but overall it's in a very good condition!

So, without further words, here are some pics of the car. I hope you like it and I'll be keen to answer any questions. It's only fair to return the favor to the site and forums that helped me along the way

Hi Daniel and welcome to the forum. Nice MK1 you have there.

That white one in the advert is hideous though

Thanks, guys. I'm glad you like it!

I'm currently waiting for the Birth Certificate from VW. I hope I get lucky and get it in time for christmas, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high. I'm also trying to decide if I leave the twin headlights or get the single headlight arrangement, so I used my crappy Paint skills  and tried to give me an idea. What do you think? Single or double?

As you can see from the pics, the front bumper is loose from the left side, so I hope this week I can fix that. I'm algo going to change the coilovers because they're too worn out, so not only is the car higher than it should, but the ride is a bit bouncy as well. After that, I'm getting the front spoiler, although I'm somewhat cautious about that because the streets here in Bogotá are awful and everyone I know with a MK1 GTI has broken the spoiler due to potholes.
