In 1984 I bought an Astra GTE !

By the time I could afford a new Golf GTI the Mk2 had arrived and I preferred the Giorgio Giugiaro Mk1 so I bought the Astra GTE.

The Astra GTE replaced my Mk1 Scirocco and was a great car - my first new car  

The Astra GTE was replaced by a Mk2 Scirocco Storm. Many years of company cars followed and several years of buying a wide variety of vehicles to suit our need  :wink:

Any road, I still think the MK1 Golf and the Mk1 Scirocco look great and I'd love to buy the car I missed owning - the Mk1 GTI. I'm in no rush to buy so if you don't mind I'll be visiting your forum to educate myself on my future purchase  :mrgreen:

I do own an old VW and it's a Mk1:



There is at least 1 forum member on here who should recognise it  :wink:

I am trying to persuade the missus to have one to replace modern euro box, no hope I think.
Even though my 11 year old daughter knows difference between a Bay & a Splitty.
