Ideal Car Choice?

Okay so ive outgrown my 1.4 Golf MK3, i dont get along with the clutch very well and quite often find myself thrashing it carelessly down the A47 :D but now ive got a better job with better pay, its time i can afford a better car - a golf mk1? I heard classic insurance is cheap, especially no the 1.1 or 1.3 models, and theyre not too much to pick up, bearing in mind i am only 17 of course (N)(Y)

The choice is between-
MK4 golf 1.4 3 door black
MK1 golf 1.1/1.3 3 door

Its my second car and i want something ic an really treasure. Any ideas, advice or assistance in making the decision? my budget is about 2,500 to 3,000 for the MK4 and about the same for the MK1 although id like something fairly complete for that price on it

thanks guys

Crime dont pay but it helps

I don't think you'll get classic car insurance, if its your only car and you're 17. So you need to get proper, accurate, quotes before you commit in that respect.

The Mk1 will be considerably older and have much less equipment than a 1.4 Mk3, it still has enough to do the task of transporting stuff from A-B though. Also the age might mean its less reliable, although with a budget of ?2500 you could spend less than that on a car and have a reserve for any repairs. The danger of spending that much on the car in the hope that it will be in great condition and not need work, is that its a 'hope' rather than a certainty!

If you like the Mk1, get one! Simple really.

You say it's your second car though so.. limited milage and a good alarm will make the insurance a "little" more affordable

Be prepared to spend money on a 25 year old car though mate.  It may not look like it needs it but you'll find something you need to buy  :D ….just make sure the shell is good… anything else is a bonus.

Wish I was in that position at 17 buddy
