I'm Back ! (after 10 yrs)

Having been completely out of the GTi thing for the last 10 yrs or so I posted an entry on the Club GTi site today about geting a value on my car, and a link to this site. Club Gti seems to have gone a bit OTT now (or I am getting older). I can remember back in the 90s trying to get a Mk1 Register going but that was all before the internet made accress so much better.

Anyway any fellow oldies out there may remember me and my Mk1 Campaign (A5RGH/A758ERY) Mars Red, as we did the concours rounds for many years and frequently appeared in VW/AUDI CAR.

I've had the car since 1989, and in the last 12yrs or so has only done around 3000miles (95k total). Its still totally concours and unrestored - how many are there left that have not had at least apaint job by now?

I have not used it for the last 4 yrs but do start it up and give it a run down the road every 6 mths or so and then coverit up again in the garage.

I have been thinking about selling it but it is so difficult to build up the courage as i know I will regret it. So now its crunch time, either it goes or I will be back using it next year.

Is there still an active round of meetings where Standard Cars are not out of place? - Dont get me wrong I do like modified cars ( You should take a look at my Smart Car) but to modify a Mk1 in my view is criminal.

Most shows now have the standard and modified catagories so that you know who you are competing against.

Go along and show the car, you may pick up a prize!!!

Welcome Richard and look forward to seeing some pics of your car. As Darren mentioned, we have our annual club meet at Gaydon (you just missed it! ) which had about 150 MK1's - fair proportion standard and subtly modified.

We have a club stand at the Classic Car Show in two weeks time and are building up a regular crowd on our club stand at various shows.

Hope we can see you and your car in the future.

Cheers
Andy

I'm Back

Thanks for the welcome everyone, sorry I have not got any pics yet, but will get some taken soon after I get the car dug out of the garage from all the things that got piled up around it over the summer.  I am amazed at the following that the Mk 1 seems to have and I am definately going to get it back on the road, and I am about to start to find some insurance again - Whats the betting that its a bit more than the ?87 pa i last paid back in 1999?? .

Richard,

Get that Mk1 back on the road

We are mainly into standard Mk1's but there is still a healthy modded scene here.  Basically if your into mk1's we're the place.

I deal in Mk1 parts new and used, and in the main only standard parts.

Oh yeah - quite a few of us are oldies

Cheers
