How to fix un the interior of a MK1?

Good day,

I plan to acquire a 1981 manual diesel. It has 300,000 kilometers on it and the body is in good shape.

The interior is disintegrating. The headliner is cracked, the dashboard is faded and cracked, the door panels look miserable, the foam on the seats disintegrating - all very depressing.

What are my chances of getting spare parts to re-do the inside? Does a MK2 dash fit on a Mk1 dash? What about the plastic handles. locks and levers? Is these parts available or do I have to spend the summer wandering through salvage shops.

Many thanks

Hi,
Some of the items you require should still be available from VW.
You would be looking at 60 Euros for seat foams and a company called TMI do new door cards just google them.
As for the headliner it would depend on wether it's a 2 or 4 door.
Other bits available all over the place inc E bay etc.
I can provide you links for various bits if need be.
Just send me a PM.

If Mk1 seats are in short supply you could use Mk2 Golf/Jetta/Polo seats as foam donors

It's not in my name yet, but its close.
I'm happy to know that 300k is nothing for this engine. I want to run it as my daily commute to work so its good to know it has lots of life yet.
