Hello,

Not got my Mk1 yet, but will be looking out for a 1.8 GTi project very soon, need one with a solid shell, a good gearbox and good quality window seals.

Plans are to do a full strip down rebuild, new paint, recon engine, reworked interior, powder coated suspension and other parts, polybushed, coilovers, the lot pretty much.

Anything else i need to look out for, and any ideas on the cost of my build?

Not wanting to teach you to suck eggs as I dont know of your mk1 knowledge but for key areas of body rot check out THIS guide.   Cost really depends on how far you want to go with it, can be bottom less

It will always be cheaper to buy someone else`s good car, rather than buying a ?500 wreck and spending money on bodywork paint,
