Hi :)!

Proper newbie about golfs but my friend recently purchased a mint mk1 and i seem to have fallen in love with it.
Could anyone please tell me if they would be any good for a first car? and how much they reckon insurance and such would be?

Mk1's would make a great first car, I could be a bit biased tho :wink:   Good to get to grips with basic mechanics too!  As for insurance, as it's a first car i'm guessing you're a teenager?  In which case gti's etc are going to be pricey to insure.  If you're minted then great, if not go for a small block 1.3.  Driver spec 1.3's are quite similar looking to gti's.  Try getting some test quotes to see how much you're looking at.

Yeah just turned 17, and wanted to get a mk1 have about a grand to spend on one. And my friend has some ats cups he said he would sell me cheaply to put on it if i got one!

make a fantastic first car, i think.

just got to buy the right car to start with,

depending on your experiance in maintaining cars.

if you are not very good with this, getting the best possible car you can get with your money would be a good start.

if you can do some work yourself, your options widen.

just keep this  in mind when you buy. don't bite off more than you can chew!
