Hi :-)

Just joined the site and thought I'd say Hi… :D

I bought my first Mk1 in September last year - I always wanted a 1303 Beetle but after driving my Dad and Step-mum's two (!! How greedy) Mk1 Cabs decided I had to have a golf!

It's a 1988 GTI Cab in Bronze Grey Metallic (not sure if this an original colour - never seen another like it!) which looks slate blue / purpley / grey with a navy blue hood. I am slowly trying to put some original bits back on as it has been messed about with a bit

I bought it from a dealership for ?1800 with 130k on it….4 weeks later, I crashed into a big steel post, pretty much destroying the driver's side front wing (bumper/driveshaft/wishbones etc etc)…. On inspection it was clear that I'd had no rear brakes AT ALL! Very lucky to be here and that it was only a post I hit!

My insurance company wrote it off saying it would cost ?2500 to fix but my dad very patiently set about getting it back on the road (He is a legend   )- It now drives so much better as several other problems came to light when he was putting it back together!

All in all (new MOT etc) it cost me ?300 (and 6 weeks on the bus to work!)to get it back on the road - and the insurance company (eventually  ) gave me ?1500 for it minus all the money they then take back off you for excess / buy-back / being greedy etc.

Can't believe I've still got my dream car and I have come out of it with more cash than I started with!

Anyway - Hello!

Rach

Just realised my step-mum is on here too - organising the new show in Essex on 9th April!

its great when you come out on top when insurance is involved, i had this happen with my 1st 1.1c golf. A transit van pulled across a dual track to turn right and blocked my path, couldn't miss him,  insurance paid out so much i had the car fully repaired to new inner wings bonnet front panal brought a donor (rolled) mk1 gti and transfered everything to my 1.1c and a full glass out resparay. and i'd got the car for peanuts anyway cause someone had dented the front wing, (i did put a new one on before the crash). so it does pay to be insured! Lol

Thanks guys - glad you like it!

Has anyone seen another one in this colour?

Am trying to get my hands on a parcel shelf (just got chipboard at the moment!) and a chrome side strip now then I need to do something with the interior as I don't want it to get any scruffier!  :)
